The northeastern block of India comprises of seven states, popularly known as seven sisters. Manipur is one of the states, which has been covered with fame and is known in every corner of the globe for its pure and rich cultural heritage also for Sports. Out of the state's eight districts, Tamenglong is located along the western boundary of the state.Tamenglong is entirely composed of hills, ranges and narrow valleys. The hilltops and valley sides are dotted with small hamlets, located at strategic points.The land was believed to have been formed due to orogenic movement during cretaceous and Eocene period. The main rock formations are sandstone, shale, schist. Sightseeing in Tamenglong :: Tamenglong Manipur is blessed with virgin forests, exotic orchids, rare and endangered plants, and wildlife. The forests can be grouped as Tropical-Ever-green forest, Sub-tropical forest and Bamboo brakes. The dense tropical Evergreen Forests are located along both the sides of rivers flowing in the district, varieties of ground flora, creepers, herbs and grasses are found here. These forest are the main source of timbers. Cane brakes are found in and around water bodies. The Sub-tropical forests are found on the highest altitudes. Varieties of orchids are found in this zone of forests. In the degraded forest areas the bamboo brakes are found in plenty.
Along the river Barak there are seven waterfalls in series at close range. The picture is at the third step of the waterfall.
Tharon Cave :: The famous Tharon cave is located at about 27 kms from the district HQ. The map of the entire cave is engraved and painted on a stone at the main entrance. Archeological excavation of the cave shows affinities with Hobinian culture of North Vietnam.
Zeilad lake :: The legendary Zeilad lake at Makoi (Atengba) is associated with a number of pythons, fishes and water birds. There are six other lakes nearby Guiphop Zei, Nrou Zei, Nap-sam Zei etc.
Buning (N-piulong) :: The Buning (N-piulong) meadow is located on the western side of the picturesque Tamei town. A number of well-groomed uneven small mounts, numerous glittering brooks are located at the stretch. In the month of June the meadow is coloured with enchanting groud orchids and various wild lilies.

The orange festival cum craft exhibition is meant to facilitate the socio-economic upliftment of the people of this district, which is still experiencing the "Poverty in the midst of Plenty", by taking advantage of the natural favourable conditions for the growth of horticulture crops. The main objective of the festival is to promote tourism and provide an opportunity to orange farmers to display their produce before potential buyers. The first and the second festivals held earlier during the last two years have generated a lot of awareness about the orange and other products of the district not only to the people of the state but to the people from other states and also abroad.

Orange Festival :: The festival offers an opportunity for both the growers and fruit processing industries to clinch deals with orange farmers based on various aspects such as collection points, quantity of product, labour charges, transportation charges, etc. This resourceful but inadequately tapped district requires effective channeling of the available technological know how, quality fruit production, disease and pest management, post harvest technology, processing and effective marketing is the need of the hour. It will wean people away from the age old tradition of shifting cultivation which requires clearing the biodiversity rich thick jungles for growing crops for subsistence. Tamenglong people too do not enjoy Jhum cultivation any more. It is a hard work.
